Cask at the Craft Beer Co. on 5th October 2011. Ink-black with initial pale brown head and no lacing. Rich ’parfum’ of pungent earth and roast malts. Thick blend of roast malt, pipesmoke, wood, chicory and vanilla in-mouth; richly bitter yet rounded finish including grass, vanilla and graininess. Thick full-bodied stout, yet not too heavy mouthfeel. Excellent - especially that the alcohol does not override.

On tap at Craft Beer. Opaque black brown beer. Tidy little tan head. Semi soft and semi dry palate. Moderate carbonation, smooth. Rich tangy dark malt with subtle red fruits underneath. Traces of coffee and unsweet dark chocolate. Quite a juicy finish with licorice spice and hop bitterness. Semi dry finale. Not bad at all, quite a lot going on here. A more luxiriant mouthfeel would better suit it’s rich flavours.
