A strong altbier in the Dusseldorf tradition, Double Nickels is rich and chewy on the palate, with a massive malt base and a bold hop character. Brewed with 5 German malts and loads of Herbrucker hops, this doppelsticke altbier is bursting with flavors of caramel, toast, raisin, earth, herbs and pine.

Some oak and some roast. A little root and tobacco. Leather. Light caramel. Black pour with good head and lacing.

Draft at Churchkey. Poured a kind of dark cola color with a off-white head with a lot of lacing. Aroma was dried fruit. Some cardboard. Reminds me of a slightly malty beer that has had all the hops drop out of it. Interesting.

Draught at the source: pours brown with a beigr head. Aroma is pungent maltiness and dark fruitiness. Taste is earthy, coffee, fruit. Loads of stuff. Not as sweet as expected.

On tap at the brewery, pours a dark rootbeer brown, white head. Nose has malt and spice, date and raisin, booze. Flavor is nice, balanced with malt and dark bread, spice and booze, yeast. Finishes full body and boozy but to be expected. 7 4 7 3 13
