A Red Sour Beer Aged in Oak Barrels With Montmorency Cherries.

This beer is inspired by the red sour ales traditionally brewed in the West Flanders region of Belgium. Aging the beer further on Montmorency sour cherries resulted in a delightful marriage of fruit, spice, tannin, and tartness. A perfect bedside storytelling sipper...

Farm boy, fetch me that beer!

375ml bottle [6.4% abv]. Clear, ruby colour with small, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white to beige head. Mildly funky, minimally bretty, fruity and woody, slightly tangy aroma, notes of cherry, morello, oak, blue grapes, a touch of bramble, blueberry, plum, whiffs of mustard seed, black pepper. Taste is slightly dry woody, tart-ish fruity, slightly tangy, notes of cherry, morello, hints of bramble, blue grapes, oak, a touch of plum, black pepper and mustard seed. Slightly oily, watery texture, slightly astringent, simultaneously minimally greasy palate, medium, scattered, prickly carbonation. Complex and harmonious - wonderful!

Poured from 375mL bottle (2019 vintage; 2019-11-04 stamp). Clear auburn with small off white head. Aroma is vinegar and cherries. Taste has good hit of acidity to it, feint balsamic notes with underlying cherry. Decent.

Barely hazed, amber colour with a frothy light-beige head, average retention and a thin coat covering the brew. Big vinegar sour nose at first (balsamic, apple cider), then calming down a little and showing hints of cherries and vanilla from the oak. The taste has a building sourness, that does not go up in a crazy fashion, but just gets up slowly, lasting a long time. The Montmorency cherry notes are well-blended the whole way. A nicely brewed sour ale that represents well the Red Flanders style.

Bottle pour at Small Pony, pours a deep dark red / burgundy with a small off-white head. Aroma really expresses the cherries nicely — revealing tart cherry pie and oak in great combination. Flavour is very acidic, with a really nice sour cherry character upfront, followed by plenty of oak, and heartburn-producing acidity. The cherry character is nice, but as with so many Small Pony sours, the acidity is too aggressive.

A murky cherry amber ale with a thin collapsing light mocha head. In aroma, loads of tart cherry, light Brett, light lactic notes, light vanilla, beautiful. In mouth, beautiful mix of sweet cherry and light vanilla, Epsom salts, light Brett and grapeskin, very nice and complex. On tap at brewery.
