Fruity, dank and hoppy black IPA Just a hint of roast helps balance up the lavish amount of fruity Green Bullet, dank Columbus and bright ADHA527 hops. Silky rich and complex with a heady hop aroma.

Keg at Castle Tap, Reading. 19/05/17. Weak floral and farmyard aroma. Dark cola brown. Thin creamy white head. Juicy Grapefruit. It builds in bitterness. Light bodied. Watery. Lively carbonation. Middling finish. Good stuff.

Cask at the Cock, 01/03/17. Pitch black with a solid tan head that has excellent retention qualities ... a beautifully presented beer and worthy of a 5. Nose is liquorice, spice, pine, red berries, charr, cocoa. Taste comprises light pine needle, toffee, cocoa dusting, roast malts, charr, brown bread, toasted brown sugar, black peppery spice. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying close spattered with earthy hop bitterness. Decent CDA.

Keg at the brewery tap room. A pitch black coloured pour with a lasting sticky tan head. Aroma is weird tangy pine, toasted wood, bitter lemon, soy, hint of infection. Flavour is big bitter toasted wood, sticky resinous pine, gin, juniper, black liquorice, bitter black raspberry. Palate is medium full, sticky resinous hop. Bit of a weird one.

Keg at the brewery taproom. Pours black-brown with a dense, lasting beige froth head. The aroma holds burnt toast, moderate roasted malts, burnt pine, orange peel. Medium sweet flavor with a bit of harsh ash, bitter cocoa, scorched earth, charred herbs, dried citrus peel. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Lightly astringent on the finish, with more hearty ash, bittersweet baking cocoa, drying charred wood, earth, herbal hops. There are some interesting elements here, but in the end it’s not terribly drinkable.

Keg at BD CJ. It pours jet black with a small tan head. The nose is rich, bitter - sweet, sort of meaty, Worcestershire sauce crisps, earth and light spice. The taste is assertively bitter upfront, charred wood, hard roast, some acidity, unanimous, burnt plastic, chewy malt, smoke, cocoa, spice and salted liquorice with a dry, yet chewy finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Oily mouth - feel. On my first few sips I enjoyed this....but it comes across as quite messy and burnt. I?m not sold on it.
