Bourbon barrel-aged imperial milk stout – 13.5% ABV

A rare variation to the eighth beer in our 12 Days of Christmas series. This imperial milk stout was laid to rest in bourbon barrels for over a year, and emerges this holiday season with deeper, richer, darker, more velvety milk chocolate notes, along with amplified roastiness and ripples of caramel, coconut, and vanilla character.

Draft pour at Rustico Alexandria. Poured a a dark brown color with a medium sized tan head. Unlike the base beer, this aroma was a bit of a mess, there is some dried fruits, but it's missing the nice plum, date, prune character and is a bit too hot for it's own good. Boozy, kind of unpleasant. Flavor was really good, lots of smooth vanilla, roasted malts. Some chocolate. Bourbon woody character. The beer's barreling helps eliminate some of the sweetness that was really apparent in the original, base beer.

This here is a black beer with a small tan head that dissipates leaving some lacing. Aroma is heavy on the bourbon, lactose, milk chocolate, more bourbon, wood. Flavor is medium plus sweet, heavy bourbon, hints of vanilla, lots of milk chocolate. Medium plus body. Hot and boozy; not bad but lacking mouthfeel that would be expected for a 14% beer.

Bottle from Hoarders, Great aroma! Mellow bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, oak. Taste is sweet and chocolatey, milky, a bit roasty and great bourbon on the finish. Body is quite heavy and smooth. I also get a bit of warming alcohol but not overwhelming at all for the 13.7. Really nice overall, sweet, bourbon and chocolatey. Wow!

75CL via Hoarders. Black in the glass, brown edges. 1 finger tan head. some alcohol legs. The aroma is fantastic. mounds bars, coconut, chocolate, vanilla, whiskey and cinnamon sugar. Udderly delicious. The lactose sweetness comes on strong at the finish and lingers with cocoa and milk. It's really a great compliment to this strong-bier. Bourbon, cinnamon, sugar, cloves, peppermint, charcoal, burnt oak. really tasty.

Bottle @ Bruery Bonanza 2017. Black pour with a frothy tan head. Insane bourbon nose. Not much to find behind that but I guess there's some roast at least. Sweet, tiny bitter & malty taste.
