Vines is a series that celebrates wild beer and wine grapes, and the second 2020 release is here, made with Niagara Sémillon.

This edition is a barrel aged wild ale blend, inoculated with Chardonnay skins, and refermented with whole Sémillon grapes -- a golden-skinned grape native to the Bordeaux region.

Bottle from the brewery. Clear yellow pour, with a large white head. Acidic white wine notes, pear, apple skin, slight funk. Bright mouth feel, soft, yet lively carb.. Very acidic, sharp, vinous, huge white wine character. Refreshing, clean and crisp. Good stuff.

(500ml Harvest 2020 bottle shared by Herbalist, thanks!) Pours basically clear medium gold with a small rapidly dissipating head and no lace. Extremely wine-forward, but being Semillon the character is bright citrus like lemon, tart apple, soft stone fruit, light to moderate acidity, no sweetness at all, a soft spice component, Brett is fairly restrained but a bit musty/earthy, soft barrel, a little astringency, pretty crisp and mineral, lignering lemony grapes with a little deeper grape skin grip and soft funk and barrel for structure in a dry finish that is on the whole crisp and refreshing. Medium-bodied, lively bottle-conditioned carbonation, no obvious alcohol despite the wine-like ABV. Super Vines edition, reminiscent a little of Burdock's hybrids which is a complement.

500mL bottle, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Nose reveals a musty grape skin character and a nice wild yeastness. Flavour is similar, with musty grape skins, gentle wild yeast, and a champagne-like effervescence. High carbonation that fits the grape character well. Very nicely done.

Pale yellow, On the nose, there's a nice brett character, a good sweet vinous note, too. Balanced. The sweetness of the grape is big, and it balances out that brett character quite a bit. Nice bit of barrel. Oh, this is good.

Bottle: Poured a clear golden color ale with a medium size white foamy head with limited retention or lacing. Aroma of funky notes with some vinous notes and light grapes notes. Taste is also a mix of sour notes with some funky ester with some vinous notes and grapes notes are also perceptible. Body is about average with good carbonation. Solid mix of grapes and sour ber with a nice level of complexity.
