Classic straight down the line dry Irish stout. Full bodied with pronounced dryness from roasted barley, matched with high levels of bitterness and a dry, almost smokey finish. A very accessible stout.

Bottle at Mum and Dads, from Callans Dundalk, 25/12/14. Light black with a good sized tan covering that dissipates then retains. Nose is roast malt, light cocoa dusting, dark malts. Taste comprises rich roast, charr, light coffee grinds, chocoalte, raisens, dried fruit. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent enough stout.

On cask at the Haymarket. Appearance - dark brown to black with a lovely fawn head. Nose - milk chocolate, toffee and nuts. Taste - more hazelnuts in milk chocolate with a creamy yet bitter toffee backdrop. Definitely a charcoal or liquorice finish going on too. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy yet dry and crunchy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - i really like this. It should probably be in "dry stout" style.

Cask @ Crown Liquor Saloon, Belfast [131114]
Dark brown, ruby edges, dense tan head. Taste of nice mellow roast, dark malts, some bitter dark chocolate. Palate is fairly bitter, soft dry roast finish. Yes, this is much better than the bottle. Up to 3.5.

Bottle from Asda, Enniskillen [130614] 5/3/6/3/13 3.0
Black but a lot of ruby light through, tan head, some lacing. Aroma of burnt roast, some charcoal, rust, soft yeast. Taste of burnt roast, coffee ground, touch of dark bitter chocolate, bit savoury. Palate has a soft carb, body is medium to thin, little oily, fairly bitter. Finish is quite dry, some bitter burnt roast with a dab of creamy toffee on the tailend
Overall - Average stout, body is a tad thin...it’s better than some of the other beers

Cask at the Clachan, Nicholson’s - London. Pours clear brown with a mild, tan cream head. The aroma has dry cocoa, toast and tobacco. Light seeet flavor with mellow roasted malts, baking cocoa, cigarette ash and light burnt leaf bitterness. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Simple finish of burttoast, chalky baking cocoa, spent tobacco. Basic but OK.
