We can count on one hand the number of time’s we’ve used puree instead of whole fruit in a beer, but… it’s a special occasion. So we took a batch of Substance and added nearly a ton of blueberry puree. A surprising and silly lil’ take on our flagship IPA.

Can (4/23/24) pour from AirForceHops--thanks, Chris! Opaque purple with nice sparkle, massive frothy head with poor retention and no lacing. Sediment at the bottom. Aroma is strong lemon and grapefruit followed by pineapple and berry. Taste is strong sweet/tart pineapple and blueberry; muted citrus and grapefruit. Smooth texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste with mild bitterness. Quite a departure from how I found The Substance.

16 oz can. Aroma at first is Mosaic hops. Then soft berry. The citrus, pine and grass you find in the base Substance is here. Yet, the sweet berry knocks those flavors down quite a bit. Blueberry isn’t overly sweet. It is an interesting variation of Substance Ale.
