Can (11/15/23) pour from The Beer Store, Salem. The first foray for Spyglass into the Barleywine realm (at least as entered on RB). Lightly hazy (fine particulate mist) dark amber with light sparkle, sustained head and nice lacing. Aroma is caramel, fig and light spice. Taste is caramel, light spice, brown sugar, bittering hops. Smooth, frothy texture, soft carbonation, no sign of alcohol, dry, mostly bitter finish. They cut the sweetness by balancing with the bittering hops but I would have preferred a richer, sweeter, more syrupy treat. Decent first foray into the style.

16 oz can in a trade with tfontana. Thank you Tom! Aroma and sugar, covered dates and mild herb. Flavor is nicely balance between malt and hops. Caramel, dates, figs, and mild herb bitterness. Very good for such a young barley wine. ( I age all my barley wines ).
