(Cask at Craft Beer Co Covent Garden, London, 21 Nov 2024) Black colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of chocolate, coffee, black bread and roasted malt. Malty, roasted taste with dark chocolate, coffee, dark bread and a balanced roasty bitterness. Medium body, dry. Solid and well made stout. Very nice.

Cask at Salopian Bar, Shrewsbury. Pours a strongly dark reddish-brown with a small cream head. There’s roast malts in the aroma, alongside bread rolls and a hint of coffee. In the mouth it is sweet and creamy but with a little underlying bitterness. Flavour has cola, liquorice and malts plus traces of chocolate and ginger, leading to a slightly spicy finish. This is well balanced and rather nice.

Nice looking near-black with a frothy tan head, and chocolate malt on the nose. Medium bodied and smooth it ticks all the boxes for my liking, without being super-fabulous: there's roasted malt, some fruit and dry bitterness so all good.
