Brewed with Oats, Black and Chocolate malts, EKG, Fuggles and Columbus hops, Pirate Life Stout is perfect for the cooler months. The malts take centre stage with a cacophony of coffee, chocolate and sticky date pudding and a rich creamy mouthfeel thanks to the oats. Columbus smacks the palate with a healthy dose of bitterness while late additions of EKG and Fuggles lend a gentle, earthy spiciness to the beer.

500ml can. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a lasting frothy tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, light smoky, liqourice, charcoal, light citrus. The flavour is moderate liqourice bitter, light sweet, with a roasty, liqourice, light floral hop bitter palate and a lingering liqourice bitter finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

(Can) Pours black with ruby hints and an excellent beige / tan head. Nice aroma - coffee, hints of chocolate and port, maybe a little ash. Good body and smooth mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Good taste - dark / burnt malt, coffee, dried fruit / port with plenty of bitterness growing substantially in the finish. Good stout with plenty of bitterness.

Can from Brewcraft at home. Dark dark not quite opaque cola brown pour with fine tan head. Aroma is roasty woodsy/coffee, earthy hops. Nice - more amped up hops but earthy/woodsy so blends well with otherwise very roasty malts. Overall a sort of mossy effect. Taste is more standard medium-heavy stout. Bitter, leather, roasted coffee. Not as interesting as the aroma. Palate is medium-heavy. Not bad but had high hopes and was a little let down.

Keg at the Canalhouse, Nottingham. Dark brown, opaque with no head. Smells of oak, coffee and cooking chocolate. Bittersweet taste with a lifting astringency near the finish. More bitter chocolate in the aftertaste. A very simple and predictable recipe, but it's still gorgeous.
