Sample at the brewery is a murky black with a big cap of white head. Nose is roasty and toasty, malt, old school. Chewy flavor, toast and malt, some coffee, earthy, black pepper. Medium bodied, dry, long and roasty.

16 ounce can. Aroma is roasted malt and anise. The flavor has plenty of roast with burnt molasses and that star anise hint. The body feels thin to me. (Or perhaps I drink to my imperials). Meh, just ok.

Can from the Packie. Solid black in color with a decent sized bubbly tan head that shows moderate retention. Roasty earthy aroma and flavor with hints of licorice and burnt sugars. Kind of thin body for an American stout, tastes more like a big dry stout. Nice flavor imho could use a bit of sweetness and body.
