Quite literally the world’s gold standard for chocolate beer. This cacao monster just brought Vietnam its first ever gold medal in the World Beer Cup, the most prestigious beer competition in the world! Working closely with the good people at Maison Marou Chocolate, we tirelessly tasted cacao nibs from across the country until we developed the perfect blend. We then add these nibs to our Imperial Stout with a touch of Saigon cinnamon and hint of fresh vanilla beans from Mui Ne. The result: chocolate transcendence!

Vietnam #1 at time of rating. Black with medium brown head. Aroma is melasses dark chocolate maple syrup licorice dark honey vanilla. Taste is full bodied sweet syrupy chocolate with quite some hop presence. Quite sweet but still balanced. Very smooth and drinkable. Good one.

Tap at The Globe. Getting over a cold so can’t taste as well as I’d like. Deep black pour with dark mocha brown head. Aroma is dark roasted chocolate and coffee, leather, a bit of dark fruit umami. Very nice even when sick. Taste is big bitter roasted coffee and chocolate with huge alcohol warmth. Slick palate and slightly chewy but not syrupy mouthfeel. Can’t get the full taste now unfortunately. Very good though. Have had a few times over the years - holds up.

Draught @ MBCC '17 [ Yellow Session ]. - Mikkeller Beer Copenhagen Celebration 2017, Øksnehallen, Halmtorvet 11, 1700 København V, Danmark. [ As Pasteur Street Cyclo Imperial Chocolate Stout ].Clear dark black brown colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, dark malt, coconut, sweet malt, chocolate, chocolate cake. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration, dark malt, chocolate, cocoa, coconut, chocolate cake, dark malt. A deep dark imperial stout stout with little brown head. In aroma, beautiful mix of chocolate malt, ground cherries, lactic acid, Epsom salts, light Brett, vanilla and tropical fruits. In mouth, intense sweet chocolate with cinnamon, chili, coffee grind, loads of alcohol warmth, complex and beautiful. On tap at brewery. 8-4-8-4-15

Draught @ MBCC 2017. Pours black with tan head. Aroma of sweet roasted malt, caramel, dark chocolate, chocolate cake. Flavor is sweet, rich malty, caramel, dark chocolate, little cinnamon, chocolate, cake. Medium body, average carbonation, sweet finish with warming alcohol. 120517

On tap at Pasteur Street - Hanoi, pours jet black with a small oily brown head. Aroma is decadent, with heaps of dark chocolate upfront, followed by a hint of cinnamon and vanilla. Flavour is decadent and robust, with heaps of dark cocoa, fairly harsh roasted malt, and accentuated by a hint of cinnamon. Fairly dry, roasted and somewhat bitter on the finish. Monstrous impie, with no remorse. Very good.
