Deep dark brown coloured body with a large, three centimetre tall off-white and tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, raisins, molasses, strong maple syrup, oak and a dash of smoked peat - quite strong in the nose.. Medium-bodied; Slightly watery flavour at first that definitely shows the roasted malt and the raisins, figs and pitted fruits, but the backbone isn't too strong and a bit of the lactose, oatmeal and grain shows through that make this seem much more of a porter than a stout (definitely not an Imperial). Aftertaste is more focused on the sugars and the malts than anything else with maple syrup and molasses both coming through along with a dash of peat, earth and caramelised sugars that end quite nicely. Overall, a good offering that is slightly better than the 'original' Starsky and Dutch, but is still much closer to a 'typical' Porter than anything of a stout and definitely not an 'Imperial' anything. I sampled this thirty two ounce growler fill from Whole Foods in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia on 13-September-2019 for US$10,00 sampled at home in Washington a day and two days later (to finish it off).

Can pour into Tulip glass from Leary's Fine Wines & Spirits, Newburyport. Appearance is dark, dark brown with ruby--almost opaque black--no discernible sparkle, finger-width audible fizzy light brown head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, maple. Taste is roasted malt with coffee, chocolate, maple, hint of bacon. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with slippery texture, lively carbonation and more bitter than sweet, crisp finish. Overall, decent complexity that works harmoniously. A bit too carbonated and borderline too sweet.

4 oz. draft at EBF Boston, MA. 3 February, 2018. Black appearance. Aroma and flavor mirror. Body is thick and creamy with bolder coffee flavors, good coffee roast, subtle maple hints and light bitterness. Shows a dry texture. ABV hidden
