Bottle thanks to Dunbar72! Sampled on March 7, 2015.Black color, small tan head. Acidic, roasted scent. Very acidic, loads of red apples taste. Fizzy mouthfeel, low bitterness.Acidic porters don’t go well with me, my mind gets sort of fooled towards uncontrolled fermentation or bad cleanliness, hard for me to enjoy or like.

Unusual fruit porter with thick and creamy, pale beige head over a very dark bronze beer. The nose immediately shouts sour cherries, embedded in hints of cocoa, caramel, hazelnuts, lemon peel, banana, orange and yoghurt; taste is predominantly the tartness of the ’Schaarbeekse griotten’, refreshing, some red apple and peach, resinous mouthfeel, caramelly, big maltiness, strongish carbonation, some bitter chocolatey maltiness in the finish, brandy-like alcohol touch, yeastiness but most of all, the drying effect of the sour cherries. This was not my first ’fruited’ porter but it is the first one in which the fruits dominate the malts, as in terms of taste alone, this reminds more of an ’oude kriek’ than a porter... Interesting experiment, that much is clear. Not entirely sure what to think of it, though: I had the impression the fruity sourness and the maltiness were too much in conflict and coexisted in it without having any further relationship with each other, as if someone just poured a lambic-based traditional cherry beer into a glass of porter.

Draft pour at the Brouwers Big Wood festival. Pours a dark reddish color with a patchy fizz head. Sour dark fruit aroma. Plum and cherry. I’d like to point out that I have had so many porters in my days, and never ever has one been anything close to this. Sweet, yet dark fruit front flavor with a touch of sweet milk chocolate in the finisj. Don’t get me wrong, this beer is really good, I’ve just never had anything like it. Bonus points for being so unique. Awesome beer.

Sampled draft @ ZBF 2014. Thick murky brownish red with off-white bubbles. Smells lactic, sour, fermenting berries, rotting cherries and chocolate. Tastes of rotting cherries, lactic, muddy water, fermenting chocolate, the sourness doesn’t come across as intended. Not very pleasant, the whole feels very messy and tad watery.

Bottle @ Van Moll Tasting shared by me. Murky opaque reddish color, small beige head. Aroma is on the one hand chemical, on the other hand there’s a slight touch of chocolate and indeed cherries. Taste has clearly got cherries, sweet-sourish. Hmm I’m not convinced.
