Poured into a thistle, the appearance was a ruddy burnt amber color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that slid off at a decent pace. Sly messy lace.
The aroma had a good assortment of peat, smoke, sweet meat, wood, caramel/toffee malt, leather, some earthiness, dried leaves, and a light contour of bread.
The flavor was moderately sweet with the earthiness and smoke coming in to try and balance. Smoke to malty sort of aftertaste and finish.
The palate was almost medium bodied with a good sessionability about it. Low carbonation with a good ABV. Pretty smooth to the touch along my tongue.
Overall, pretty good as a Scotch ale, could have a bit more herbal quality that I normally get in the style, but still do-able enough to have again.

12 oz. Draft at the Grog, Newburyport, MA. Ruby in color with a moderate light brown head that showed lace. Pleasant aroma of peat, malt, and brown sugar.

The flavor closely follows the aroma with peat, malt, and molasses. There is a bit of caramel sweetness in the flavor as well. Very sweet finish. Lighter bodied with a sticky texture. Not a style I reach for unless the brew is barrel aged. Which sadly this is not.

Pours a rich copper from a tap. Aroma is redolent with caramel, vanilla/oakiness, some peat, flavor is the same with a very pleasant peaty smokiness just hinted at in the background. Good beer.

Pours light mahogany into a thistle. White head with Goode retention recedes leaving sheet lacing. Molasses and summer pit fruit aromas. Dark toffee and hot caramel up front turning fruity in the dry lasting earthy finish.
