Sample at the brewery 1/25/2014. This wins for best beer sampled on my visit. Dark mahogany color with thin lasting head. Dark roasted malts leading to chocolate, earthy malts and nuts. The flavor starts with traces of cocoa, molasses and roasted nut flavor. Has a light anise flavor toward the finish. The texture is almost syrupy sweet without being cloying. The ABV is hidden and the body is medium, leaning on the thin side. But that doesn’t hurt this brew. I was glad I saved this for last because I had nearly lost all faith in this brewpub. This is a well made brew and I could order this again.

Chocolately, roasty goodness. Almost porter-like in its color and aroma with a little oily sweetness to it that takes this beer to another level. Very enjoyable for the first two pints, then my palate was screaming at me to stop.
