22 oz. bottle purchased @ Julio’s. Bottled on 12/12/12. I held this by mistake thinking it was high ABV, to my dismay I realized it was only 5.5%. So the barrel is just to add some flavor? Ok so, let see what a 12 month old low abv (barrel aged) stout did. Aroma is light oak, sugar and chocolate. Flavor for sure has faded but really nothing wrong at all. The light barrel is up front but it is mostly just wood. No hint of bourbon or whiskey can be found anywhere. Chocolate malts and lactose/ burnt sugar are the base of the stout. Finish has some barley and weak oak barrel rounding in the finish. The body is medium and on the creamy texture side. Honestly, considering the age of the bottle it is much more drinkable then I would have imagined. This could be better if consumed more on the fresh side.

Pours black into a tulip. Mocha head pancakes and recedes laving spider lacing. Sweet chocolate, milk and oak aromas. Thin with milk chocolate and creamy bourbon and oak front to back. Dry finish lingers espresso. Not bad.

A deep dark stout with no head head. A more vanilla bean intense chocolate aroma, with light peated notes. In mouth, a nice little stout with wood notes, bitter chocolates, light cherries. Lighter than expected. On tap at brewpub, Inbièrenationale IV, May 2007.
