Session IPA

Zen is our balanced, bright & hoppy Session IPA. Born out of a series of experiments during our first year of brewing, Zen quickly earned a spot in our core can lineup, eventually transitioning to our seasonal squad in 2017. This year, we doubled Zen’s hop load, primary hopping the beer — adding hops in the early stages of fermentation — before dry hopping it, a novel technique that increases citrus and fruit aromas. Zen is currently a draft-only beer, available in limited quantities exclusively in Cincinnati.

Can pour into nonic pint glass from Andover Liquors. Appearance is hazy pale yellow with fine particulates, minimal sparkle, finger-width foamy white head with decent retention and light soapy lacing. Aroma is strong citrus with milder tropical fruit, grapefruit, resin and pine. Taste is bitter grapefruit and resin over sweet citrus/tropical fruit. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with thick texture, average carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, strong aroma and flavor with decent balance--slightly more to the bitter side than I’d prefer--but really good for a Session.
