Bottle from Hog’s Back Brewery shop. Liquor coffee aroma. Glossy and thick looking. Unfortunately the beige head receded too quickly. Gains in bitterness. Coffee as expected. Sour berries. Roasty smokiness. Underlying cream sweetness. Medium bodied. Slick. Average carbonation. Surprisingly abrupt finish, leaves a low key coffee aftertaste. Somewhat restrained but I personally wouldn’t want it to be too sweet or in my face. Works for me.

500ml Bottle - Black with a small head. Strong aroma of coffee with notes of vanilla also noticeable. Smooth taste with roasted coffee, vanilla and hints of blackcurrant.

Cask at the 26th Egham beer festival, Egham, Surrey. A black coloured pour with a medium beige head on top that didn’t linger. Roasty, coffee, caramel aroma. Tastes roasty, bitter coffee, caramel. Didn’t pick up any real sweetness but this was rather pleasant nevertheless.

Cask-conditioned at Tewkesbury Winter Beer Festival 3/2/2017. Dark brown with tight, beige, head. Aroma of coffee beans and milk chocolate, with some toasted malts. flavour was on a similar vein, with a sweet edge and dry, coffee dominated, finish. Enjoyable.

Cask at the Greyfriar, Reading. Black with a thick brown head. Lovely coffee whiff. Sweetish coffee with roasty notes and a little creme caramel up front. Rich mouthfeel at first. But then... after about quarter of a pint it all seemed to die a little. The coffee faded a little, allowing a slightly sour roast malt to grow. It ended with me still feeling it was actually a reasonably decent stout, but just one that disappointed a little when judged against the high expectation arising from the aroma and first sip.
