Bottle from Home Bargains, Blairgowrie. Pours clear golden amber with a thin white head. Aromas of caramel and light dried herbs. Taste is more of the same. Thin finish.

On handpull at The Belvedere, Liverpool. Golden colour, with a thick off white head. Some caramel malt in the flavour with a good bitter finish. Low carbonation.

Cask, The Ship Inn, Hoylake, Wirral. Darkish golden colour with a creamy off white head. Hops in the nose. Smooth sliding down. Unobtrusive yeast and malt in the flavour. Lovely bitter finish. Great session material.

Cask handpull at The Belvedere, Liverpool. For anyone who has spent any time in Liverpool, the return of Higson’s does send a little thrill of excitement through you, purely for the historical factor. This beer is gold in colour with a thick beige head. Wow, what a nice bitter. Properly bitter on the finish. Easy drinking sessioning type beer. Attractive leafy green hop aroma, lively condition in the mouth, touch of sulphury yeasty falvour in mouth and then this hoppy bite. Excellent. Not sure if it is anything like the original, but this is a good start.
