Citrus-heavy hops in a dry, yet assertive IPA... At Beer Camp, no beer style is off limits, so we jumped at the idea of doing a Golden IPA using wheat malt for a light, dry body and bold American and experimental hops for intense citrus flavor. The perfect spring seasonal, we invite you to enjoy this year’s Beer Camp encore.

Pours an almost copper amber from a bottle, thick white head with large bubbles, quickly dissipating with a bit of lacing. Aroma is a funky orange, flavor adds some tropical fruit, papaya maybe? Good beer.

Bottle at a BBQ in Newport Beach, California on 29th Jan 2017. Light golden pour, mini-haze, white head. Citrus esters and tastes rule the initial sips and sniffs. As the beer warms less ’sour’ citrus notes arrive and Mango like flavours calm the lemon, grapefruit and limes that dominated the first half of the beer. Decent.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 12/21/2016. Pours slightly hazy medium golden/yellow color with a 2 finger dense and rocky white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of pineapple, peach, tangerine, mango, melon, passion fruit, papaya, grapefruit, lemon/orange zest, light pepper/pine, wheat, biscuit, light honey, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/tropical/fruity hops and moderate bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big pineapple, peach, tangerine, mango, melon, passion fruit, papaya, grapefruit, lemon/orange zest, light pepper/pine, wheat, biscuit, light honey, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine/herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of pineapple, peach, tangerine, mango, melon, passion fruit, papaya, grapefruit, lemon/orange zest, light pepper/pine, wheat, biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/tropical/fruity hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderately creamy/bready/grainy/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 6.5%. Overall this is an excellent IPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/tropical/fruity hops and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth, easy, and pretty refreshing to drink with the mellow bitterness. Impressive hop complexity, solidly juicy feeling; great malt balance, without feeling too sweet. A really enjoyable offering.

This is on the light side of ipa and drinks like a session beer. Gold color like the description says. Dry hops and malt body, perfectly drinkable, but no new flavors here. Very close to an pale ale.

Citrusy and easy drinking like lemonade in the summer. Golden pour without much head but ok lacing. Light bitter, but mostly smooth finish. Bottle, possibly from recalled section. I’ll update if I get a broken glass aftertaste.
