Citrus-heavy hops in a dry, yet assertive IPA... At Beer Camp, no beer style is off limits, so we jumped at the idea of doing a Golden IPA using wheat malt for a light, dry body and bold American and experimental hops for intense citrus flavor. The perfect spring seasonal, we invite you to enjoy this year’s Beer Camp encore.

Bottle. Pours lightly hazy golden, large Diddy white head, dissipates slowly, nice lacing. Aroma is grassy, floral, a hint vegetal, lemongrass, wheat. Flavor is light sweet, light bitter. Light body, acidic.

From a bodega: pours golden with a white head. Aroma is light fruitiness, citrus, some resin. Taste is lightly bitter and kind of sweet. Very easy to drink. Not bad.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a heavily overcarbonated bright yellow gold color with an enormous fluffy yellow-white head that lingered forever and left decent lacing. The aroma was citric acid, orange, lemon, dry and chalky. The flavor was tangy and tart with pepper, bread dough, lemon and cactus. Medium length finish. Medium body. Meh.

Keg at the Mermaid - Clapton. Pours clear gold with a lasting, creamy white head. Mellow citrus peel in the nose, traces of orange peel, lemon, dry pale malts. Light to medium sweet flavour with more understated citrus fruits, subtle pale bread character, low bitterness, nips of pine needles, hay. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Nicely balanced finish, some floral and piney hops, more dry pale bread, a little peach, tangerine find. Enjoyable.

12 oz. bottle, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out light piney hops and dry biscuity malt. Flavour is nice and piney in the hop department, with a dry biscuity malt backbone. Standard stuff but well-made. Solid.

Bottle. Orange, grapefruit, biscuit malt, and grapefruit peel aroma. Slightly hazy yellow with large white head. Mildly sweet citrus biscuit malt and lightly bitter grapefruit peel flavor. Good body. No off flavors but pretty boring.

Pretty good hybrid IPA, allowing the wheat malt to shine through the dry citric hop front. The haystack and grass provide a nice semisweet undercurrent, yet the grapefruit-lemon hoppiness balances out all these "golden" aspirations. Finishes a bit weak; needs a firmer bitterness to offset the pronounced malt aftertaste, yet all in all it’s another solid Sierra Nevada IPA. Too bad it’s no looker.

(tap) clear, bright yellow colour with a small white head; aroma of lemon, lemon candy; dryish, still balanced flavour with a long, medium bitter finish
