A deep dark stout with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity chocolate malt with light Brett and bourbon notes. In mouth, a nice smooth sweet fruity chocolate malt with light coffee and bourbon notes, light cherry, licorice, nice. On tap at brewery.

(On tap at the brewpub, Mar 8 2014). Pours black, small bubbly pale tan head, no lace. Aroma of dark malt and coffee, slightly toasted, light bourbon character with wood/vanilla. Flavour heavy on roasted coffee with some dark malt sweetness at first. Dries really quickly, however, with a fair amount of roast and a fairly light touch of wood/vanilla and bourbon compared to some takes on the style. This seemed like a breakfast stout with a bit of oats in it? Finish is very dry, coffee, roast and a little lingering barrel character. Mouthfeel medium, a little creamy, very soft carb. It’s fairly easy-drinking actually and far from the booze, roast or barrel bombs that it could have been, but I think I prefer my impys a bit less dry. I also wish I’d had it before Icebreaker.

Draft at the Indie. Nice dark opaque colour as a stout should be. Thinner tan head than I expected. Nose of bourbon, oak and malt. Taste, big taste of coffee, bourbon definitely there, oak and malts. Good beer, a little heavy one the coffee for my tastes, but good.
