Draft from Waterfront Manhattan. Pours a coppery orange. Nice smoke but sort of a Rauch Lite. Pretty drinkable though.

Amber ale with a thick off white head. In aroma, malty, carmelly, light cinamon notes. In mouth, a nice restrained peatyness, with good malt and medium bodied. A good beginners rauchbier. Tasted May 10 2009.

On tap at the bocktown, very nice place. Hazy brownish pale yellow appearance with a thin tea froth head. Initial bandage taste. Barely any aroma, but what is there seems to be a bit sterile. I sense some kind of smoke in the taste but it is fairly laid back compared to other smoked beers I’ve had and I like it better that way. Barely any carbonation. OK for a smoker. Bandaid hospital finish.

22oz bottle shared with argoO and crew. Deep smoky aroma. Orange-tan color, minimal head. All out smoky taste, true to style. Hops come through with some crispness to counterbalance the all out smoked malt taste. A touch more bitter than your typical Rauch, almost a touch spicy.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. I must preface by declaring my self not a fan of smoked beers. Pours with a small white head over a hazy gold body. Aroma of smoke, sanitizer, banana, rabbit droppings, alfalfa, kitty litter and rye. Taste is smoke, banana, and reminds me of a rabbit run. Light bubbles and watery.

Pours a clear light copper, with a sticky, moderate ring of lace - the smoked malt is apparent in the nose first, with some sticky sweet maltiness underneath, some notes of buttered toast, caramel - light, and actually quite thin, especially since the aroma seems to suggest a thicker, sweeter beer - the smoked malt takes a back seat in the flavor - instead, pils malt and spicy noble hops are the dominant flavors, and the smoke doesn’t really become apparent until near the finish, as the hops soften, and some light bready character manifests - a bit of alcohol warmth in the finish, which takes a little bit away from the beer’s mostly refreshing character - not too bad

Pours clear, autumnal orange into a shaker. Off-white whipped cream head top hats as it slowly recedes leaving sheet lacing. Smoked caramel aromas. Crisp with an interesting balance of sweet malts and smoke from front to back. Turning to a refined smoke finish. Turns a bit cloying and stale - trying to finish the bottle becomes difficult and lowers the rating.
