Sample thanks to fogdog. Thanks Kevin. Pours deep dark garnet with a thin tan head. The aroma is a nice mixture of chocolate, caramel, highly roasted malts and a bit of toffee all blended together very nicely. The taste starts off with a coffee note and then quickly becomes roasty, molasses, more coffee and chocolate. By midway it picks up a sense of the alcohol and a layer of earthiness. It all blends together with harmony.

Deep dark stout with a thick moka head. Aroma of celery salts, chocolate, and light alcohol. In mouth, a rich bitter chocolate with molasses and warming alcohol. Rich bodied stout, with an off-putting aroma. Enjoyed with the Mtl Crew Sept. 9, 2006.

Prune juice appearance- murky brown, opaque, with a medium tan head. Aroma of plum and prune, Belgianesque with dark fruits and tartness, toffee, with smoke and breads. Didn’t bring to mind a stout right away. The flavor was surprisingly acerbic, with extremely bitter dark chocolates dominating the palate, followed by hot alcohol notes. Plummy with roast and brown sugar beneath the chocolate assault. Rough palate. Interesting but not especially enjoyable, with way too much emphasis on cocoa and alcohol. Beers that challenge the palate are often not very good, contrary to marketing campaigns. This is better than bad but not worth the cost.
