Thanks to Beer_Hawk for bringing this one back form Peru to share at the Nashville tasting. Pours a dark garnet that throws up a fleeting tan head. Roasty dry aroma. Malt and hops are evident. The palate is smooth and medium bodied and delivers a malty, well balanced flavor profile. Quite decent, even if I thought it wasn’t absolutely to style.

Very dark. Sweet aroma, with light roasted malt. Drier than Cusqueña Malta, less sweet, more roasted malt, light liquorice.

This is better than the Negras I had in Argentina. Deep dark beer with a nice moka head. Sweet fruity chocolate aroma. A bit too sweet to the mouth but enjoyable vinous taste, a little roasty or woody.

What is going on down in Peru? They have Japanese running their country (well, not any more I guess, but for decades they did) and guys named Backus and Johnson brewing their beer. Not that they did a good job with this one. It is very dark brown in colour, with little head; brown sugar, toast & coffee in the nose (though that makes it sound better than it really was); thin body, sugary taste, cloying finish.
