We brewed this “Red IPA” to have a deep colour and a hoppy head of citrus and tropical fruits. We should note that a Red IPA has a more moderate bitterness than your usual West Coast-style IPA – we consider it more like a shot in the arm than a fist in the face. Our Pacific IPA gets its characteristic bitterness from the Pacific Jade, while the late kettle additions of Motueka and Wai-iti taunt your senses with tangerine and citrus. The malt base is also much heavier with biscuit and toffee tones and at 6.4% the ABV is what we have come to expect from any good IPA. Inspired by the duality of the dark Northern winter and the lively Southern summer, we reckon this Red IPA is equally good any time of year.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a cloudy amber with a lacing, off-white head. Absolutely no crisp hops, a hint of caramel perhaps, in the nose. Medium body, malty, an odd smokiness and a bitter finish. But absolutely no aromatic hop character. Guys, if you wanna showcase Kiwi hops, you really, really need to rework your hoppy beers. They're not doing anything good for the amazing NZ hops - quite the contrary. 301117

Looks really lovely. Deep dark orange golden color with a fine frothy off white head. The head vanished a bit to fast. Ok intensity in the aroma. Toffee, fruity and hoppy aroma. Medium + body and a bit to high carbonation. Made it unpleasant fizzy. Tad sweet and a bitterness that not covered it up. Lots of dried fruits in the flavor. Maybe to much. Also toffee and a bit low hop profile. Hmm. I think they have some discussion to to at this brewery.
