Kith & Kin is Scots for ‘friends & family’, which perfectly captures the spirit of this collaboration between two pioneers of our craft. Kith & Kin is a rich Scottish stout aged in Teeling Irish Whiskey barrels. Brewed with a big hit of chocolate malt, to create a flavour packed beer with dark chocolate, coffee and treacle, alongside delicious hints of vanilla and spice. A little barrel-magic means that the aftertaste is smooth, seductive and long.

330ml bottle. Pours an opaque black with a medium, creamy, short lived, tan head that laces. Sweet aroma of chocolate malt, toffee, light whiskey and a hint of vanilla. Sweet flavour of chocolate malt, molasses, vanilla, oak and whiskey with mild coffee bitterness in the finish. Medium body with a watery texture and flat carbonation. A little more aging in the barrels could have made this pretty special, but still not bad.

Keg at the kitchen.. Dark black.. Thin tan lacing.. Soft dry dusty chocolate roast malts nose... Too cold by far... And its their own bar so extra penalty points for that... Dark chocolate roast.. Quite fizzy... Dry chocolate roast malts

Bottle - Cocoa and toffee with some dark malts. Deep brown with a small beige head. Dark toasty mollasses and toffee. Bent sugars and a long finish.

Dark brown. Thin head. The aroma has some chocolatey, fudgey accents. Light note of whiskey. Sweet, fudgey, with whisky notes...sweet chocolate fudge. Not a whole lot of complexity, but you get the elements that were promised. A bit nutty, but that’s all the nuance you get.

330mL bottle, pours a deep dark brown / near-black with a small beige head. Aroma is very Englishy in the malt department, with faded cocoa and light whiskey. Flavour is along the same lines, with faded cocoa, light whiskey and English bready malt. Fairly dry, very Englishy on the bready malt, and light on the whiskey. Pleasant but uninspiring.

The barrel aging is subtle and doens’t lend a ton of flavour, in contrast to most innis and gunn beers, which are quite strong. The itself is medium bodied, I would like to see a bit more full of bold flavours. Although it is smooth and easy drinking with the primary stout-like flavour being that of dark chocolate.
