Kith & Kin is Scots for ‘friends & family’, which perfectly captures the spirit of this collaboration between two pioneers of our craft. Kith & Kin is a rich Scottish stout aged in Teeling Irish Whiskey barrels. Brewed with a big hit of chocolate malt, to create a flavour packed beer with dark chocolate, coffee and treacle, alongside delicious hints of vanilla and spice. A little barrel-magic means that the aftertaste is smooth, seductive and long.

Boxed bottle from the lcbo. Very subtle barrel aged stout. Light smoke, light peat, nice roast. Watery body, and mouth feel, very soft carb. Light bitterness, treacle, and light sweet soy notes with hints of woody barrel.

11th February 2023
Almost opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head that legs it in short time. Airy palate, smooth and semi dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Smooth if slightly thin dark malts, a thin creamy sweetness. Thin smooth chocolate malts, lightly fruity. Mellow mellow barrelling here, the lightest touch. Whispers of oaky vanilla and very soft mild whiskey. Light finish. Pretty drinkable but very much an outlier in terms of barrel aged impys.

(Bottle) Black colour with creamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of black coffee, cacao, black rye bread, raisins, liquorice, vanilla and oak wood. Malty, roasted taste with chocolate, coffee, black rye bread, raisins, hazelnuts, liquorice, oak wood, vanilla, orange peel and a mild roasty bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty and well made stout, with a gentle whisky touch. Very nice.

Bottle. Black with a thin off-white head. Has a somewhat sweet roasted malt about it,, but its barrel ageing is evident too, most notably in its nose. More crips than smooth, but it's texture has elements of both

Bottle in box. Pours a dark brown colour with ruby highlights. Mocha-coloured creamy head with good retention and a little lace. The nose is quite sweet and rich with maple syrup notes over the chocolate malts and some decent coffee. The flavours are not as sweet, but still the maple notes and coffee shows. Hints of vanilla. Kind of thin and nothing to out-of-this-world, but another decent barreled beer from this brewery.

330ml bottle (boxed): BB Nov 17. Poured into my lovely thistle shaped Gordon's glass at home some four days after it's BBD (4th Nov 17). Tan foam blanket on a dark, black body. Aroma is dark malts, chocolate and coffee esters to the fore. Taste is also chocolate and coffee first from the malts, then a little sweet vanilla. This is one of the best I&G beers I have had, only buy them if 'on offer' because they are often just a sweet mess, this however is very pleasant: too sweet for some maybe, but fine for me and my sweet tooth. Not picking up any Barrel Aging though, no spirit or oak like flavours to be found. Not as smooth or rich as some BA Stouts, but the alcohol level isn't high either: still enjoyed it.

Bottle @ Fox & Hounds, Sønderborg. Pours cloudy very dark brown with airy tan head. Clear aroma of malt and yeast, with notes of barrell and touches og hops. Roasty flavour with sweetish notes of barrel, lactose and yeast and hints of hops. Creamy mouthfeel. Roasty aftertaste with hints of yeast. A nice one.
