Rutland Beast is strong yet exceptionally balanced. Dark earthy brown in colour, it’s fantastic flavours blend together to produce a mind blowing great beer.

Brewed using a combination of seven different malts and wheats, as well as three classic hop varieties, Rutland Beast is a true animal. Regarded as the ‘Bigger Brother’ of the Rutland Panther, the Beast is rarely spotted around these parts, but is a spectacular sight when seen.

Cask at Briar Rose, Birmingham. Took a while to settle but was closer to ruby red in colour with smooth off white head and good lacing. Quite rich and malt driven with notes of toast, caramel, nuts and slight leafy hop. Sticky mouthfeel with soft fine carbonation. Interesting but one was enough.

Half-pint, cask ale at Moon Under Water (JDW). Remaining beige head over a clear copper coloured body, dotted spots on the glass. Raisin and caramel on the nose. Fine blended taste of dried fruits, mild caramel malts, and grain. Drying close, lightly roasted, and not overly sweet. Pretty decent. Celebration drink. (Hounslow, 03.11.2022).

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol, 27 September 2022. Mahogany in colour, with a frothy, off-white, head. Dark fruits, some chocolate sweetness, bready malts and oak, ending with a full, moderately bitter finish. Good.

Cask at Rupert Brooke, Rugby. Pours a cloudy dark burgundy with a small cream head and good lacing. Ust some general frutiness in the aroma. Much more action in the mouth where dark fruits and malts hit immediately. Later on small amounts of treacle, parkin and raisins can be detected as well. Overall it fluctuates between sweetness and bitterness. Finish is fruity and slightly dry. Very nice indeed. Not a stout though. I would class it as “strong ale” though it does have some ESB type characteristics.
