Pepra Saison is E.C. Dahls' interpretation of the classical Belgian farmhouse, subtly enhanced by the ancient herb hyssop and a fragrant kick of white pepper. Hyssop has been grown in Norway since living memory and has beautiful blue flowers, actually the same shade of blue as the label. The herb gives the beer an aromatic and lightly bitter taste that works together with the characteristic flavor of white pepper.

A bit weird paper touch. Not my cup of saison.
Hazed pale golden color with a fine white head. Decent intensity in the aroma. Medium body and a fine carbonation level. A bit dry ending. Citric, paper, pepper and some yeast in the flavor.
[On tap at Dr. Jekyll’s Pub in Oslo, Norway]

330ml on tap at Den Glade Gris. Low white head, scattered lacing, near-clear golden body. Herbal hops on the nose, hints of spices. Mid-sweet citrus flavours and herbs to the taste buds followed by a bittersweet finish lightly spiced with white pepper. Medium boded. Alright with the meat (Oslo 09.11.2016).

On tap at Piccadilly, Bod. Pours an amber colour with a creamy off-white head. Aroma of Belgian yeast, spices, citrus and hay. Spices in the flavour as well along with grass, dry hay and citrus. A little dry in the ending. Has a soft and slick mouth feel, medium body and medium bitterness. A light, balanced and decent saison.

330 ml bottle. Hazy golden body with a moderate sized off-white head. Aroma has pale malt, Saison yeast and mild, white pepper. Flavor is medium sweet pale malt, spicy yeast, moderate bitterness and mild but distinct pepper. Medium body and decent aftertaste. A very decent Saison with a pleasant pepper flavor, distinct but not hot. I like the combination of Saison and pepper as long as it’s like a spice and not a crazy novelty thing. This was rather nice and enjoyable.

330 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.5%, IBU 35. Hops are Perle, EKG and Styrian Goldings. Golden colour, moderate to low white head. Aroma of white pepper, herbs (hyssop) and dust. Light bodied for its strength. Dry flavour, notes of white pepper, leaves a nice mouth- and throatburn in the aftertaste. I am not convinced that the addition of hyssop adds anything positive to the flavour - rather the contrary, this herb does not taste very good. Still, I’ll give Dahls credit for the experiment.
