500 ml bottle, from Ales By Mail. ABV is 7%, IBU 52. Chestnut to mahogany colour, moderate off-white head. Aroma of ripe red and dark fruits, hints of rye bread and bitter orange marmalade, also lightly roast malts. The flavour has moderately roast malts, mild coffee, rye bread and earthy and orangey hops. Reasonably good beer.

Clear amber brown colour, small soapy off-white head, mostly diminishing, minimal lacing. Aroma roasted malts, caramel, treacle, orange marmalade, spicy notes. Taste medium sweet and bitter, roasted malts and nuts, burnt caramel, bit of chocolate, nutty notes, light fruitiness after a while, light marmalade. Bittersweet roasted aftertaste, medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. A beer that needs some time to open itself but in the end quite tasty.

Bottle from the Grumpy Goat, Reading. Chestnut with a beige head. Sweet and fruity aroma. An acrid and bitter burnt taste on the first sip, but this is gradually offset by the sweet fruit. Slightly burnt strawberry jam is what I was thinking of by the end. With a little toffee on the side. Odd, and not very Christmassy, but it did grow on me as I drank more.

Bottle from Rheged. Appearance - deep amber red. Nice lacy head. Nose - fudge, then raisins, maybe even figs. Taste - burnt figs, toasted fruit loaf. Palate - medium bodied with a lovely rich crunchy texture and a long and complex finish. Overall - lovely beer. In a style that may eventually become my favourite.

Bottle shared with Ashton McCobb. Pours clear copper with a thin white head. Aromas of toffee and hazelnuts, dried fruit, light spice. Taste is more of the same, but in a good way. Lots going on. Good example of the style. Quality marmalade on burnt toast. Lovely.
