Bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout brewed with our pals from Huddersfield, Magic Rock.

A black-hole monster of an imperial stout that packs intense espresso and molasses flavours before a huge shockwave of vanilla bourbon punches its way to the forefront for the finish of every sip. It’s dark, it’s powerful and it’ll keep you warm in even the deepest, darkest corners of the universe.

Bottle from the Fyne Ales shoppe. It pours oily jet black with a few tan coloured bubbles on the cap. The aroma is smooth, rich roasted malt, big liquorice character, umami, coffee grounds, chocolate cake, bourbon soaked oak and vanilla. The taste is slick, oily, toothy, chewy, massive liquorice, some bitterness, vanilla, toasted coconut, dark chocolate covered coffee beans, thick and oily, bourbon soaked oak, bourbon biscuits, light tannin and some warmth alcohol with a roasty, liquorice finish. Fulsome body, light carbonation and slick mouth feel. Could be done with a bit more condition to elevate it to top tier. As is it's still rather enjoyable.

Bottle. Black body with a thin beige head. Patchy lacing. Aroma of raisin, bourbon and coffee. Flavour of treacle and plum. Thin body with a slick texture. Soft fizz. The bourbon barrel effect is pleasingly subtle.
