[Cask at the Alehouse, Reading.] A bright copper coloured pour with a close white head; malty aroma; satisfying caramel malt body with spice and bitterness from fresh English hops; then a dry biscuity finish. An excellent old fashioned bitter.

Bottle from Bourne Valley Farm Shop. Dark amber. Surprising hazy - it’s been stored upright. Thin white head. Initial sweetish fruit, caramel.and malts. The hoppy bitterness come to the fore. This continues through in to the long dry finish, although it’s never particularly overt and more malty in terms of aftertaste. Pretty light bodied which is emphasised by the lively carbonation. Pleasant enough but fails to make the conversion. Not sure I’d want a session on this as I think I’d get tired of the carbonation and aftertaste.
