Bottle from Beers of Europe. Appearance - opaque black with a thin crema head. Not much sign of carbonation. Nose - dark chocolate and burnt toffee. Light nuttiness at the back which is somewhere between hazelnut and coconut. Taste - praline and molasses. Palate - medium to full bodied with a rich creamy texture and a long, rich but elegant finish. Overall - good.

Bottle from the King’s Head, Norwich. Dark black, thick and oily in the glass. Opaque and flat. Naked alcohol and caraway dominate the aroma with some gentle roast malt and a hint of Marmite. Bitter, warming taste with a sweet/savoury hit. Beef tea and Marmite chocolate (yes there is such a thing) in the aftertaste. Slick body. It’s interesting bordering on tasty, but too odd to join my pantheon of great impy stouts.
