Rose is named for Portland, Oregon, the Rose City. Originally called Golden Rose, this Beer started life as a straight forward Belgian Tripel and evolved into a Beer made with beets, hibiscus flowers and pink peppercorns. She has always been inspired by the Belgian style known as Tripel, which has a low level hops and is deceivingly light in body for its alcohol strength. This is achieved through the use of imported Belgian candi sugar.

Batch #35 from my cellar. Pours clear dark amber with a thin off-white head. Sweet candy malt aroma. A bit of alcohol when it’s first poured that dissipates quickly. Sweet and smooth flavor with a peppery finish. Smooth and full bodied. Holding up well.

Hazy reddish amber beer with a tiny white head. Dry palate. Sweetish hibiscus, fairly fruity but with a dry something going on as well. Pinch of pepper in the finish. Interesting beer, could be great if it wasn’t so dry.

355ml bottle @ Ølbaren, Copenhagen
Batch 41 - Pours murky reddish brown with a tiny bubbly head. Aroma of ripe fruits, malts and cellar notes. Taste is malty and yeasty with tart ripe fruits and slight sourness. Next to no carbonation, fruity and berry finish. A bit unbalanced, perhaps has seen its best days.

35,5 cl bottle @ Ølbaren, batch #41
Aroma is slightly sweet with caramel, some rosehip and moldy potato cellar. Flavour is rather weird with moldy cellar aromas, some tart red wine and hints of vinegar. Far from a tripel and definitely past its prime.

Bottle from Ölkonsotiet cons 2011-07-07 Göteborg AR: flowery (rosehip), black peppery AP: Earl grey colored body, a bit beige ... Diminishing head. Thick liquid. F: short but heavy flavor of rosehips, rose pepper, a bit overall dry feeling, finish is peppery, wee bubbles. Yolk is perhaps a bit sweeter.

Bottle. Frothy fair mostly deminishing head. Nice amber colour. Moderate malty and light hoppy spicey aroma. Moderate bitter very strange flavor. No way its a trippel, perhaps a S/H/V? Average light bitter hibiscus finish. Oily palate. Rubbish.

6-year old bottle tasted blind. Thought it might be mead. Rather un-beerlike. Salmon-orange color with no head. Aroma of honey, fruit, (pommegranite?) spices, hay, and flowers. Dry, fruity and spicy, with honey, dried fruits, black currant or blackberry. Funky, dry, wacked. Amazingly complex and subtle.

Big cheers go out to justn for this trade extra. Batch#40 Pours cloudy orange, white head. aroma, puree like caramel, light floral nose and sugar sweetness. flavor, light tart fruitness with a touch of hibiscus flavor mixed with a nice floral palate. Some lingering notes of caramel, candi sugar, subdued yeast with a finish that leans toward tartness. Found this one to be right under Rose Cassis.
