Now this is what I call mead, at least within the Valhalla series. The other three are no good, I must say (I know it’s my saying, but this is also my writing, isn’t it?) OK, let’s see... 75 and 33 cl bottles, served both in white wine glass and in the traditional hollow horn (I prefer the glass by far) at La Merced, Mercado Municipal, Rota, Cádiz. It pours lemonish yellow (not pale golden), hazy as pea soup. Aroma is quite intense, and has that balsamic note you oftentimes find in Belgian ales, that scent of mint or eucalyptus oil, if you know what I mean. You also get dry lemon and some fresh bread. Taste is sour, no sweetness, very fresh. Rather long finish with some bitterness (the only Valhalla mead to display it, in fact.) Good, I’ll drink it again.

At a tasting, thanks, a bit hazy and extremely pale yellow color, almost straw like, aroam of sour fruit and funk, light honey and apple flavor, quite strong but pleasant sourness, not heavy. Nice.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks Stas. Hazy yellow. Flowers, a bit of spiciness, a bit of funk, fruitiness, tart flavor, slightly alcoholic.
