Draft. A black beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, and alcohol. The flavor is sweet with notes of chocolate, roasted malt, alcohol, and prunes, leading to a bitter finish.

Bottle thank you Pierluigi, at So Good in Rome. Black ink pour no foam. Nose: firm cocoa, chocolate, soft roast and minerals. Lovely. Mouth: tons of dried fruit, lovely chocolate, soft (whiskey) alcohol.

Draught at CBC Boston, 9/23/17.
Inky, jet black, probably opaque with a small, tan head that fades quickly to ring, then nothing.
Huge dark chocolate mixes with strong bourbon spice, fairly strong toasted oak and moderately "sweet" fudge behind it, that attempts to balance. It doesn't really accomplish it, yet the dry, ashen, somewhat dull roast does at least blunt the roast and toast assault. Big raisin, light booze and fudge lingering on the finish. Not terribly offensive, though it's still overly rich, decadent and mostly overdone.
Chocolatey, rich, thick, with low carbonation and a ton of fudgey, milk chocolate malt that gets quickly taxed by the dark, ashen roast and intense bourbon character. Alcohol dries it out considerably, on the finish, but it isn't hot or sharp/messy. It's a pretty wild ride between bourbon spice, toasted oak richness, dry, ashy roast, sweet, gooey fudge and dark chocolate. In the end it's fine, though I don't find anything particularly compelling or memorable.

Bottle thanks to Derek. Pours a very dark brown with small beige head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, oak, vanilla. Slick body, dark chocolate, roast, oak, vanilla, nice sweetness, very nice.

Keg @ Mikkeller & Friends. Black pour with a small dark mocha head. Pleasant roasty impy & bourbon nose. Sweet, bitter & malty taste. Soft & round mouthfeel. Vanilla & hint of green chilli. Sweetness seems more balanced than in the rye barrel version. --- Beer merged from original tick of Black Magick - Old Forester Bourbon Barrels on 11 May 2017 at 13:30 - Score: 8. 4 oz. draft Copenhagen Beer Celebration, Boston, 23 September, 17. Iridescent shine over the black liquid, Tan head.Aroma substantial amounts of bourbon, mild brownie batter, dark roast. Flavor is full of bourbon with a nice chocolate brownie batter base. Bourbon is forward with a warming after the sip. For the strength of the alcohol is is not overwhelming. This is flat out awesome!

(On tap @ Mikkeller and Friends, Copenhagen, May 11/17) Pours black with a tan head. Notes of sweet dark chocolate, dark toffee, fudge, vanilla, bourbon, light coconut, some wood, moderate roast, a bit of coffee, pretty rich and unctuous, a bit of a liqueur feel to it, rather sweet overall with some balance from roast and wood, pretty long aftertaste. Medium-full bodied, a bit syrupy, very soft carbonation. Really nice stuff, a big stout with a big barrel, I thought it was similar to the Buffalo Trace version in almost every respect but didn’t seem quite as smooth.
