Remember when you were first introduced to Rocky Road ice cream? Remember how you couldn’t believe some magical genius had mixed those amazing flavors into one ice cream? We sure do. That’s the feeling we’ve recreated with Rocky Road, Smutty’s first dessert stout. An indulgent blend of ooey-gooey Fluff™ amazingness and the rich goodness of cacao nibs are blended into a full bodied sweet, stout beer. Before bottling, we age this elixir on amaretto soaked oak chips to impart an amazing flavor harmony. Don’t worry if you spill a drop of Rocky Road – we know you’ll lick it right up. Cheers!

Bottle: Pours black with a small, light brown head. Chocolate, marshmallow, nut aroma. Flavour is melted Rocky Road ice cream.....amaretto, licorice. Slightly woody and nutty. Absolute bulls-eye on the taste target of re-creating the ice cream.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled in 12/2015. Pours pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, fudge, toffee, vanilla, cream, nuttiness, toasted dark bread, light smoke, and roast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, cocoa/marshmallow, and light oak notes; with great strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, fudge, toffee, vanilla, cream, nuttiness, toasted dark bread, light smoke, and roast/oak earthiness. Light roasted bitterness and oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, fudge, toffee, vanilla, cream, nuttiness, toasted dark bread, and roast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, cocoa/marshmallow, and light oak flavors; with a great roasted bitter/sweet balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light dryness from roasted bitterness as well. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky, and slightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is awesome. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent sweet stout. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, cocoa/marshmallow, and light oak flavors; and very smooth and easy to sip on. This has some nice ice cream-like character as well. A very enjoyable offering.

22 oz bottle poured into a snifter. Bottled sometime this month. Black with a finger of tan head. Aromas of big roasty notes, some nuts, a little marshmallow, dark chocolate. Tastes of sweet roasted nuts, roasted coffee, dark and milk chocolates, a little vanilla and artificial marshmallow. Medium body with a dry finish. Good but not quite as sweet as I was expecting for a rocky road themed beer.

650 ml bottle. Snifter provides a black color without fast dying head. Aroma is German chocolate cake, liquor and deep grains.
Marshmallow fluff I’m not getting here. Amaretto comes off just as a hint of oak. The body is full and dense and exactly as it should be for a stout. Smooth / low, carbonation level giving a creamy feel. It ends on a big sugary sweetness. I was really wanting the marshmallow here and didn’t get it. Still overall pretty good.

Bomber from Beer Run. Near black with a large, dense dark tan head. Good retention. Aroma of roasted malts, nuts, chocolate. The taste is amaretto, dark fruits, chocolate, oak, a bit of a sugary sweetness which I guess is hte marshmallow. Medium bodied.
