Remember when you were first introduced to Rocky Road ice cream? Remember how you couldn’t believe some magical genius had mixed those amazing flavors into one ice cream? We sure do. That’s the feeling we’ve recreated with Rocky Road, Smutty’s first dessert stout. An indulgent blend of ooey-gooey Fluff™ amazingness and the rich goodness of cacao nibs are blended into a full bodied sweet, stout beer. Before bottling, we age this elixir on amaretto soaked oak chips to impart an amazing flavor harmony. Don’t worry if you spill a drop of Rocky Road – we know you’ll lick it right up. Cheers!

Tap at stags head. Confession I’ve never had Rocky Road ice cream so no idea on comparison. Dark pour. Nose is chocolate ice cream light earth. Taste of choclate, caramel, marshmallow, earthy, confection sugar. Semi sweet finish. Not bad.

Samples first with a buddy, and my first impression was wow, where did this come from!
I repooured my portion into a becher, here’s the rest.
The appearance was a two finger sustaining off white to tan foamy head that dissipated ever so slowly. I think a turtle could have walked a mile in the amount of time this dissipated, boy, is this head slow or what. Lacing is very foamy.
The aroma takes on a dry oaky chip initially and then mildly blends in a marshmallow roasty coffee to cocoa bean. Semi-sweetness pulling that bitter underscore of both of those beans.
The flavor leans towards the bitter to dry roasted taste of the coffee and cocoa bean. Marshmallow seems to lean towards the background here and gets a slight toasted/roasty sort of tingle to it. The aftertaste brings a fairly dry sort of oaky to roastiness. Dry roasty to oaky sort of finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionabilty to it. Good carbonation seems to grip well.
Overall, very nice creative American stout that I know I would love to have again.
