This blend is a spirited synthesis of two imperial stouts recipes that were aged in Henry McKenna, Willett Family Reserve, Elijah Craig, and Apple Brandy barrels, without adjuncts. This year’s vintage is the third release of this stout blend. Over the years, the stout fermentations have become more controlled and have attenuated better than before. The higher attenuation presents itself in a more pronounced oak character and a higher ABV. Rings of Splendor exhibits tones of dark chocolate, vanilla, wisps of baking spice, and double-roast coffee beans on the palate, a classic expression of barrel-aged stout.
Blend (PPB-4Q101):
Axelrod (barrel #284) aged 10 months in Willett Family Reserve barrels and 6 months in Henry McKenna barrels
Adderley (barrel #309) aged 9 months in Calumet 15-Year barrels
Axelrod (barrel #312) aged 16 months in Elijah Craig Single Barrel Select barrels
Adderley (barrel #318) aged 9 months in Willett Family Reserve barrels
Adderley (barrel #319) aged 9 months in Laird's Apple Brandy barrels

Bottle @ Tores garage. Pitch black body without any head. Strong and nice aroma of dark malt, licorice, dark chocolate and lots of alcohol without being unpleasant. Tatse is very sweet with lots of dark, roasted malt, dark chocolate, molasses, balancing strong bitterness, some kind of acidity and warming alcohol. Fine body with long lasting aftertaste. Surprisingly nice for such a sweet and alcoholic beer, it’s simple amazing.
