For our 9th Anniversary Westy we used every progressive hopping trick we have learned over the last 9 years to wring out every last drop of hoppy goodness from our most coveted lots of Simcoe, Mosaic and Cascade. We also pushed this beer right up to the very edge (and maybe a step over) of what single West Coast IPA is in terms of abv and overall intensity. Aromas of tangerine, lime, grapefruit, peach ring, geranium and a blueberry/pineapple medley billow from the glass, and just keep coming, without any fade from the first sip to the last. Even with this high level of hop oil saturation, it is still crisp and easy drinking- with well rounded bitterness that builds but doesn’t overpower.

Poured from a 16 oz can dated May 04, 2023. Aroma is hop forward and rather dank with lots of grapefruit pith, orange, tangerine, lemon and tropical citrus. Lighter notes of pine resin. Light cracker malt notes and a light alcohol note. Honestly smells like opening a bag of hop pellets. Pours a rather clear, yellow-gold color with a medium sized, fairly thick, fluffy, white head that recedes steadily to a small film that lingers in clumps on the edges. Flavor is somewhat sweet with light cracker malt notes. Fairly high bitterness and light alcohol notes. Lots of grapefruit, orange and tangerine notes with lighter notes of tropical citrus and pine resin. Some lingering grapefruit pith and dank resin notes in the somewhat dry finish. Mouthfeel is medium light bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a solid West Coast IPA. Both the aroma and flavor have bright, fresh hop notes reminiscent of opening a bag of hop pellets. Malt profile is rather light and the mouthfeel is pretty light as well.
