A traditional mild recipe but full bodied with bags of malty flavour. Black cherry, cola and toffee with a caramel finish and a berry aroma.

Cask at Exeter Arms, Derby. Pours a very dark reddish brown with a sizeable cream head. Malts to the fore in the aroma, plus some general fruitiness. Malts again in the mouth, where it is smooth and creamy. Fairly sweet with fruity undertones and traces of cola, chocolate and caramel. This is rather nice.

Cask @ Crown & Kettle, Manchester. Dark ale with a creamy head. It has pleasant light tasting dark malts with a small pale malt dryness in both aroma and taste.

Man I hated asking for this. Handpull cask at the Exeter Arms, Derby. Dark brown with a hint of mahogany. An extremely thin layer of sandalwood head, and lots of lacing. Gentle aroma of mocha and vanilla. Sweet, sweet taste, all the way down. No hoppy bitter twist although the intensity of malt makes the finish a luscious affair. Slight unwelcome herby hint in the aftertaste takes it down a notch but overall a good experience. Simple as you get, but what a clever little mild.
