22/1/2019. Cask at the Hoop and Grapes, Aldgate. Pours clear ruby/amber brown with a lasting bubbly off-white head. Aroma of malt, hops, hint of chocolate, marmalade, toffee and butterscotch. Moderate sweetness, medium plus bitterness. Medium body, slight watery texture, soft carbonation. Dry, tangy bitter finish. Pretty decent winter ale.

On cask at the Haymarket. Appearance - dark brown with red chinks. Neat head. Nose - molasses and smoke. Some underlying red fruits possibly strawberry. Taste - burnt bread and raisins. Maybe some red fruitif you search hard enough. Palate - close to medium bodied and crunchy. Dry crunchy finish. Overall - good.

From cask at The Old Buttermarket (5 ales on cask, two of which were served with sparklers), Canterbury, Kent, with Ian, OGJ and EE 06.01.19. This is a bitter, and not an IPA. Served using a sparkler. Clear pale copper. Dense and persisten beige head and lacing. Fine aroma and taste of sweet malt, marmalade, dates and strawberry jam. Sweetness and some bitterness is lingering on. Very quaffable!
