On tap at Brewery Vivant, pours black with a small brown head. Aroma exudes intense port barrels upfront, with moderate roast and a bit of dark fruits. Flavour is rich and complex, with a wonderful port barrel character upfront—the sweet red wine really comes out. Then the roasted malt shows itself and blends with the vinous character very well. Big but elegant. This is lovely.

Love Shadow aged in Port Barrels, 9.8% ABV. Very nice, giving off a vinous port profile without growing sweet, placing a wine-laced chocolate-anise imperial stout front on top of an oaken, vanilla-tinged boozy mocha finish. Date, black cherry, and molasses all take hold, but who cares; this beer's about the port and the roast, both of which play well together. Tasty pint.
