16 February 2019. At Struise Shop, Bruges. Shared with Anke. Pours cloudy black with a huge, lasting, frothy, yellowish tan head; lots of lacing. Aroma of toast, wood, burnt match, blackcurrant, smoke, 'Schwarzwälder Schinken', fondant, walnut, earth. Taste is medium malty sweet, quite nutty, mocha & chocolate & vague 'dark' fruitiness; light to medium roasted bitter core offers toast, earthy & smoky notes (wood, ham). Dryish, earthy hoppy finish, lingering toast, fondant, smoke, and even a very subtle dash of warming alcohol (coffee liqueur-like), weird at this ABV. Medium body, oily/slick texture, soft carbonation. Good stuff.
