The chocolate character in this complex stout comes entirely from black patent and chocolate malts. Unusually dry and fruity for the style, it pairs the earthy, peppery flavor of rye with the deep, dark flavors of dried fruit.

Can from Tavour. Pours dark brn/blk with a creamy tan head. Aroma of dark roast with possible chocolate and coffee notes. Dry. Moderately bitter. Flavor is dark roast, chocolate and something lightly spicy like rye. Good.

From a can absconded at total wine NC. Pour is big and black, with nice fading choco moose head. Smells like a good stout fer sure. Taste is straight up stout without any hint of imperialism, thank you. Just good tasting dark stout. Decent level of co2 makes this much more enjoyable than a nitro. I liked this with its damp old partially burned campfire attitude. Went down rather nicely.

2 week old can A: Almost purple black pour with a short tan head that fell fairly fast. S: Heavy chocolate with light caramel and nutty grains. T: Sweet and peppery at once with chocolate again over slightly bitter hops, faint tart fruit and spicy rye notes. Nicely balanced overall. M: Low but very prickly carbonation makes for an airy mouthfeel and almost thin body. O: Tasty, balanced, not too sweet and highly drinkable. Very nice.
