Wet hopped West Coast IPA with fresh picked Mosaic

Our good good pals “The Kevin’s” over at Bale Breaker included us in their insanely cool Fresh Hops Fly program this year. What does that mean? Well, they picked 1,000 lbs of fresh/wet Mosaic at their Loftus Ranches and Yakima Chief hop farm, then threw it on an Alaska Airlines flight, and then we brewed the hoppiest IPA we’ve done this year with them. We used a whopping 20 pounds per bbl of that Wet Mosaic on the hot side, and then hit it with another 3 lbs per bbl on the cold size using freshly dried pellets from the same 2024 lot of Mosaic. All in all, it’s easy to say, that this is one of the best IPA’s we’ve released this year. Tasting notes? Lots of pineapple, some good ol’ sweaty armpit, rainbow sherbet, lots of blueberry, and the freshest devil’s lettuce.

Poured from a 16 oz can dated October 10, 2024. Aroma is hop forward with notes of grapefruit and tangerine as well as lighter notes of dank pine resin, and berry. A bit of a grassy, fresh hop note. Light cracker malt and alcohol notes. Pours a clear, yellow-gold with a large, thick, fluffy, white head that recedes steadily to the edges where it lingers. Light lacing and small legs. Flavor is a bit sweet with light cracker malt notes. Medium high bitterness and light alcohol notes. Moderately strong hop notes with grapefruit, tangerine, dank resin notes and lighter berry notes. A bit of a light herbal, grassy fresh hop note. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a solid wet hop IPA with a much fruitier hop profile than I was expecting. The grassy, herbal, wet hop notes are hidden by the fruity, dank notes. Fairly crisp and easy drinking with balanced malt and bitterness.
