Blend of barrel-aged stout and barleywine ale.
A couple times a year, I offer my barrel house to a discerning palate to help shepherd a blend to fruition. Ryan Burke of Occam Cider arrived in Santa Cruz in January of 2024, and after a few hours of blending from Private Press barrel stock, an incredible blend emerged from the glass. Three distinct rye barrels from Subtle Spirits provides the blend with a rich baking spice and vanilla backbone that opens to bold notes of sea salt toffee, dark sweet cherry, vanilla almond cake, and chocolate ganache. This blend celebrates the passion of our peers, the practice of discovery, and the subjective nature of art.
Blend (PPB-4Q304):
Adderley (barrel #345) aged 8 months in Old Elk barrels and 7 months in Subtle Spirits #36 barrels
1/2 Mahavishnu, 1/2 Dauner (barrel #359) aged 7 months in Subtle Spirits #2 barrels
Axelrod (barrel #371) aged 17 months in Elijah Craig barrels and 7 months in Subtle Spirits #36 barrels

A nice blend. Super rich, a bit sweet even. The booze is hidden relatively speaking. I like some of their others a bit more. But it is good. Beertemple ams
